Problem with this rope tut

Problem with this rope tut

Postby foff44 » Tue Oct 12, 2010 4:29 am

While going through the forums that I look at every day I came across this rope tutorial,

http://www.cgtextures.com/content.php?a ... &name=rope

It isn't for Hex but I thought I would give it a try because the last picture intrigued me and I would like to try it.
I eventually got the group of strands together but when I tried to twist them into shape the rope seemed to squeeze in the middle like a real rope would (see pic)

Image

What did I do wrong ? how to I get it to twist uniformly?

Again: any and all help is always very much appreciated..
Just do it, it might be fun

i made mine in about under 5 minutes at normal speed.

looks like you need a little more twisty :D
did you subdivide it? it doesn't look smooth unless your points didn't weld right

there is certain ways you got to do things in hexagon when it comes to twist.

do you need more help?

5 Minutes huh, jeez, I got a long way to go :
A little more help would be much appreciated mate.
Twisting and joining the segments was my biggest hassle, I watched your drill bit video about 5 times trying to pick my mistakes:)

to change view i use the hot keys to change them which are located on the far right of they keyboard called the Num pad.
or use the arrow key to rotate in in increment ,
press view all on the bottom then use the arrow key---->

what kind of pulley set up are you making ?
render in Carrara

Thanks again for the tips, I must have the model oriented in the Hex window wrong, I still couldn't get the view that I wanted, but not a big problem.

I am going to try a block and tackle pulley system, with 2 pulleys at the top, 2 at the bottom and the rope going around all of them and finish with a hook of some sort. :)

then I will render it in Carrara
