After seeing the tutorials I wonder if AE could be useful for stills, too.

Spreading one picture out over 30 frames, adding an effect (maybe a lazer beam or something like that), and then use the one frame where it looks best for the final picture - would this be a bad idea, and maybe better done using PS?

I uses AE also for just editing images. I find it hard to make more complex stuff in PS.
