Using the stretch tool to tweak

Using the stretch tool to tweak

Postby foff44 » Tue Sep 14, 2010 3:59 pm

Not sure if I have stumbled on to anything and it may already have been mentioned but I haven't found it, so here goes :)

I was going though E Z's tutorials (highly recommended) and in one tut the "Tweak" tool was demonstrated, later on in another tut the "Stretch" tool was demo'ed as well, and I noticed something.
When you use the "Tweak" tool once you click on a face you are restricted to faces until you click on the Select Edge tool (F3) then you are stuck with edges until you change again to say the Select Points tool (F4) and so on.

What I found out was, that under the "Utilities" tab when you click on the "Stretch" tool and hover the mouse over a "Face" it becomes active and can be manipulated, once you have done that and clicked to validate then hover the mouse over another face, edge or a point that face, edge or point becomes active and can be manipulated, and you can do that all the time without having to go to the selection menu and pick faces, edges or points, seems to be a lot quicker to "Tweak" the model than using the actual "Tweak" tool.

Sorry if this has been brought up before, just thought I would put it out there..
Just do it, it might be fun

.

tweak
i would use it for sculpturing ,
when you pull or push on the mesh most people dont want it to auto select like a face/edge/point,
if the mesh is real dense with lots of polygon and it auto selects then you have to zoom way in to see whats going on and ifs locked to just face mode you dont have to do all that zooming.

it depends what your really doing because they have different properties,
the tweak has soft selection which is is good for sculpturing and the stretch tool does not.

with out tweak or stretch
you can hide the manipulator(space bar) and turn on auto select to edit the mesh and to enter auto select mode again click off the mesh and auto select will be back
