boat hull

I have been trying to figure an economical way to build a boat hull, something on the order of a pirate ship or an emaculate Elven ship. I just can't seem to figure out the best way. Can't figure out the front bow of the ship. Any tuts out there any body knows of ? Just need a boat to finish a pic I'm working on. I've looked for tuts online and can't find any, and specifically with Hexagon.
