Making your own UV map for face creation

Postby Rayniac » Fri May 30, 2008 11:46 am

Hey there,

I've been working a bit with the face room in Poser, but after doing some research i noticed that with making your own UV map of the face (e.g. my face from photograph) it will look a lot better, more accurate and allows you to do a lot more things with it. I found a written tutorial on the web, but it's almost impossible to understand that without a step by step guide...
Is it possible to make a tutorial about this? Cause I have no clue about anything when it comes to UV mapping. I downloaded UV mapper and tried some stuff in photoshop, but I'm shooting in the dark... :-)

Thanks!
Rayniac

If you are doing this for Poser "only" then it is very easy and does not involve any UVmapping.

Say you want your face on M3 - good: all you need is the texture of the "MilMan" (within the Poser Runtime), something like PS or Gimp (two extremes :) ), and a foto of your face.
Load up the texture of M3, load the pic of your face, and then clone the foto in place.
Start with the eyes, nose, mouth, and then work out the rest of the skinny parts.

When you are ready, save off the new made texture by using THE SAME PATH but another name (one that you can remember).
Within Poser again and M3 loaded go to the material room and load in the new texture (hoping that you have remembered the name).
Bingo: you on M3 without UVmapper or any other kind of torture.

PS: these textures are really large - but: they have to be, so do not alter the size!

Thanks for your reply!

I must say, your explanation still sounds like chinese to me, but I will try to do this... I haven't used Poser much yet, so I find all these terms on the Net (e.g. Victoria V3) and I have no idea where to get those original models. Like you said, I have no idea what M3 is... :-) All I know is that I start up with model Simon G2, but what to do next, I have no idea...

But if I understand it right, I'll try to open this default model's texture (could you tell me what exact file to use though?) in PS and paste my face in there and then do the following steps...

Again, thanks for the advice! ;-)

We could do three things that might help:
- at DAZ (daz3d.com) there is a tutorial for exactly the method I described (pictures included)
- your mail adress provided I could send you my version (pictures included)
- we could forget about all this and talk about the real thing: music and GUITARS :D !

How about we do all three 8)

Firstly, I'll check out the Daz3D site and let you know how it went.
and my email is yves_vermeersch@yahoo.com, so always welcome to send a mail regarding whatever :-)

Cheers!
