Help - Tower Model (vovka?)

Postby aegean » Tue May 13, 2008 11:29 am

Help!!!

I just bought the tower model (megapack2 / castle....)

How do you do the roof? I have tried spires myself (in hexagon) and my tile mat skews.

I use my tile mat on your spire = fine

I strip your mat and put it on one of my spires = skew

I split your tower down to its spire top only - export it - do nothing but rename it in Hexagon and export it - add YOUR original mat and again the pattern skews

I know I'm doing something simple and wrong (that's because I am simple and often do things wrong), I've tried several things in Hexagon such as using colour domains.

I can get reasonably close, by using the colour domains and the importing the tile mat picture in Vue..... but I still get errors, I know one solution would be to UV mat the roof - not too difficult but it would be a hell of a lot easier to find out how you do it.

Unless that's a trade secret :P

Thanks in advance

ok.....

first pic - spire after being cut from tower then exported as *.3ds and imported then GAP mat reapplied = fine

Image

second pic same spire but MY mat

Image

Third pic - after only renaming in Hexagon and exporting still as *.3ds (as if I had modelled it) with GAP mat

Image

forth pic - as above with my mat

sorry for the slow reply but first time on image shack....

anyway - I hope that shows what has always happened to my towers before - skew

I think one of serfices not mapped corectly, i will check on model.
Also all models developed in 3D Max or Maya, so we will have native 3ds files avalible soon in store. If you previos purchased .vob models, you will have avalible them for free.

No problem vovka - your spire is sort of UVmapped (or at least that's how 3dsmax presents it) you can see it if you look at the spire mast in the first 2 photos - the silver and black, when you open it in the material editer you can clearly see it looks like a UVmap would ( that's ONLY after the VOB has been exported to *.3ds format and re-imported.

I can only surmise that the mats for at least the roof where added in max and not vue. The way to emulate this in hex would be to UV map the tiled section - not rocket science and also overlay each of the 8 roof sections on top of each other for simplicity.

Thanks for looking at my problem.

You great!
Most models textured in Max or Maya, and touch up in Vue after, to add better texture effect.
